For Your Grantees and Nonprofit Partners

How can BoardSource help us…

  • strengthen governance among our grantees and the nonprofits our employees support?
    • Customized Consulting. BoardSource understands that each board and organization is unique. Accordingly, our consultants recommend the approach and tools best suited for each organization based on its unique needs, history, and circumstances. Depending on those needs, BoardSource consultants will recommend specific strategies that may include diagnostic or assessment services, governance training, one-on-one coaching, facilitated board retreats, and ongoing governance resources and support.

Consulting projects might focus on delivering the following outcomes:

      • examining board structures and practices to ensure that the board is fulfilling its oversight functions responsibly
      • developing a shared understanding of the strengths and challenges of the board and its practices and establishing an action plan to strengthen board performance
      • creating an environment of accountability, performance, and intentional board practices

    • Educational Programs. To be exceptional, boards should be composed of board members who are educated about governance. Individuals need resources and information to empower and prepare them for board service. This includes education in areas such as board member roles and responsibilities, financial oversight, fiduciary duties, and board structure. BoardSource governance consultants are prepared to help educate your board in all of these areas and can present any of our standard training workshops in-person or as Webinars.

    • Diagnostic and Assessment Tools

      • Board Self-Assessment (BSA). The BSA enables the board to establish a common understanding of its roles and responsibilities as well as discover critical areas for improvement. A BoardSource consultant can analyze and interpret the results of the assessment and apply the data when planning and facilitating your board retreat.
      • Assessment of the Chief Executive (ACE). This online tool will help a nonprofit avoid risks associated with poor chief executive performance. Itenables an organization to survey board members and receive an objective summary of their input on chief executive performance.  A BoardSource consultant can also provide an analytical report based on the results of the assessment
  • understand the most critical governance needs among a group of nonprofits?
    • Community Governance Index. BoardSource can survey your grantees or other community organizations to determine the baseline level of governance practices among existing board leaders and chief executives and to identify key areas where additional education and expertise is needed.  BoardSource will analyze and interpret the aggregated data to help your company or foundation identify and prioritize governance needs for the nonprofit community, including the educational resources you provide to your grantees.
  • ensure that we are giving support to organizations that are well-governed?
    • Governance Review. To encourage exceptional governance and protect you against risk, BoardSource can work with you to develop a governance review process that will help your staff exercise due diligence in vetting your company’s prospective nonprofit partners and grantees.
  • promote greater diversity of the nonprofit boards we support?
