BoardSource Leadership Forum Explores Vanguard of
Thought Leadership in Nonprofit Governance
BoardSource, the premier voice in nonprofit governance, hosted its annual Leadership Forum, Open for Innovation: Governing in a New Era, in San Francisco, November 10-11. Presented by Chevron and anchored by addresses from Carol Larson, president and CEO of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Angela Glover Blackwell, founder and CEO of PolicyLink, and Patrick Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Forum explored the evolving role of good governance in the nonprofit sector.
The emphasis of the Forum was on new ideas. "Innovation is less about a single person or organization creating something," said Linda Crompton, president and CEO of BoardSource, "than it is about a group process, an interactive process in which ideas progress, building on one another, through a realization of what is 'wrong' and 'right' with them… to a place where we can improve them."
Attendees enjoyed plenaries and sessions focusing on trends in volunteerism, civic engagement, philanthropy, finance, fundraising, social media, law, diversity and inclusion, and much more.
On the first day of the Forum, BoardSource released its highly anticipated Nonprofit Governance Index 2010 (download your free copy now). With funding by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as part of a broader project to engage new and diverse board leaders and transform board service, the Governance Index reports on data collected from surveys of 978 nonprofit chief executives and 780 nonprofit board members and board chairs.
